R&D Test Systems delivers completed generator-converter test bench to Nordex – officially inaugurated in Rostock
R&D Test Systems has completed the delivery and commissioning of an advanced generator-converter test bench for the Nordex Group. The new facility, now officially inaugurated at Nordex’s site in Rostock, provides the company with a powerful platform for testing and developing next-generation electrical systems for wind turbines.
The test bench combines a high-performance grid emulator with a sophisticated Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) setup, enabling Nordex to replicate complex electrical and aerodynamic conditions in a controlled environment. The system can simulate voltage and frequency variations, grid faults, black-start capability, and weak-grid scenarios. This allows for complete, repeatable, and safe testing without relying on field prototypes, ultimately accelerating development cycles.
Strengthening Nordex’s grid compliance and future-ready testing capabilities
With the new platform, Nordex is well-equipped to meet increasingly complex grid compliance requirements across global markets. The test bench is designed according to the latest standards, including IEC 61400-21-4, and supports testing of various drivetrain configurations as well as emerging applications such as battery systems and power-to-X technologies.
“The collaboration with R&D Test Systems has been excellent. The test bench is a transformative addition to our testing capabilities, offering precision and flexibility we have not had before,” says Helmut Resing-Wörmer, Head of Test & Prototype, Global Engineering, Nordex Group.
A shared milestone celebrated at the official inauguration
Nordex celebrated the opening of the test bench at an inauguration event held on 26 November 2025 at the TAP Test Center in Rostock. Representatives from authorities, research institutions, partners, and Nordex’s development teams participated.
A strong collaboration driving next-generation test technology
At R&D Test Systems, the close cooperation with Nordex is highlighted as a key factor in the successful delivery.
“It has been a pleasure working with Nordex on this advanced test platform,” says Kristian Kongerslev, Technical Lead Engineer at R&D Test Systems. “The solution enables Nordex to test with full system integration and real-world accuracy, helping accelerate the development of tomorrow’s wind turbine technologies.”
